The Dofus marketplace: buying, selling and reading prices without mistakes
6 min read
The marketplace, often called the auction house or HDV, is your server’s official market: players list items at a fixed price and others buy whenever they like. Using it well means comparing unit prices, selling at the right level and never forgetting the tax paid when you list.

How the marketplace works
Marketplaces are found in the main cities, each run by an NPC. You list an item at the price you choose; it stays visible to other players until someone buys it or the listing expires. You do not need to be online when it sells: the kamas wait for you.
Items are sorted into broad families (resources, equipment, consumables…). For any given item, buyers see every current listing, sorted by price. There is no bidding and no haggling: the price shown is the price paid.
The market belongs to your server. Kamas and items do not move between servers, and the same item can be worth very different amounts depending on how old and active the server is.
- Items bound to your account or character cannot be listed.
- The number of listings you can have at once is limited.
- An unsold listing eventually comes back to you: nothing is lost except the tax.
The listing tax
Selling on the marketplace has a cost: a tax taken when you list the item, based on the asking price. It is 2% of the asking price; the exact amount is shown in the interface before you confirm: check it every time.
The tax is not refunded if the item does not sell. That is what makes random pricing expensive: every overpriced listing you pull and repost makes you pay again.
Watch out : Before changing a listing that is already live, check in the interface what will be charged. Lowering your price every day can end up costing more than the gap you were trying to win.
Lots: single items or bulk
Resources and consumables are sold in lots: one at a time, by 10, by 100 or by 1,000. Each lot size has its own listings, and the unit price is not the same across them.
For buyers, the big lot is often cheaper per unit, but not always. For sellers, the small lot reaches players who only need a few and accept paying a little more.
| Lot size | Who buys it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Single | Players finishing a recipe or a quest | The unit price is often the highest. |
| By 10 | Crafters making a few items | Divide by 10 to compare with other lots. |
| By 100 | Crafters levelling a profession, resellers | Good unit price, but a large sum tied up. |
| By 1,000 | Heavy crafters, fast profession levelling | Usually the best unit price, but a large sum tied up. |
Reading a price correctly
The lowest price on screen is not necessarily what the item is worth. It may be a mistake, a seller in a hurry or a last copy sold off. Look at several listings, and at the average price shown by the interface when it is available.
Prices move: an update that makes an item useful, a new dungeon, a busy weekend or a new server can push them up or down within days. On a young server, the market is jumpier and some resources stay scarce.
- 1Convert every listing to a unit price, whatever the lot size.
- 2Compare the cheapest, the next ones and the average price: a huge gap signals something odd.
- 3Look at the quantity on sale: many listings at the same price mean a saturated market.
- 4Before a big purchase, check again at another time of day: prices change.
Tip : To follow the price of kamas themselves in real money, server by server, see our Dofus kamas prices page.
Selling well: setting your price
The simplest rule: match the existing listings, slightly below if you want a quick sale. Halving the price only sells a little faster and drags the market down for everyone, you included.
If the item does not sell, ask why before lowering: too many identical listings, an average price below yours, or simply few buyers at that moment.
- Sell in the lot size where listings are scarce: competition is weaker there.
- Avoid dumping your whole stock at once: you would lower your own price.
- Hold items that are wanted for an event or an update, without speculating on everything.
- Count the tax in your margin: a small price gap does not always cover it.
Buying well: paying the right price
Before a big purchase, compare lot sizes and check how many you really need. Buying a hundred resources to use twelve often costs more than a lot of ten plus two singles.
For equipment, every copy has its own rolls: two items with the same name are not worth the same. Read the stats of each listing, especially if the item has been reworked with smithmagic.
Mistakes that cost kamas
Most marketplace losses come not from the market but from a hasty click.
- One zero too many or too few: re-read the price before confirming; a sale at a tenth of the value cannot be undone.
- Mixing up lot price and unit price: a lot of 100 is not expensive just because its total looks high.
- Relisting over and over: every new listing pays the tax again.
- Buying the first lot you see: a bigger or smaller lot is sometimes much cheaper per unit.
- Panic selling after an update: prices often settle after a few days.
Watch out : The marketplace is for in-game trades, in kamas. Selling your kamas for real money is a different matter with different risks: read our guide on selling your kamas.
Turning the marketplace into a kamas source
Reselling gathered resources and combat loot remains most players’ first source of kamas. With experience, some buy low and resell higher: it is demanding, you need to know prices and accept tying up kamas. Our guide on how to earn kamas compares these methods.
If you lack the time to build starting capital, you can also buy kamas from other players on KamasTrade, at the price shown for your server.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Dofus marketplace tax?
The seller pays a tax when listing, based on the asking price. It is 2% of the asking price, and the exact amount is shown in the interface before you confirm. It is not refunded if the item does not sell.
What happens if my item does not sell on the auction house?
The listing expires after a while and the item comes back to you. You only lose the tax paid when you listed it.
Is it better to sell single items or lots of 100?
It depends on competition. Check which lot size has the fewest listings and the best unit price: that is often where your offer will sell fastest and best.
Why do Dofus marketplace prices change so much?
Because they depend on supply and demand among players on your server. An update, new content or a wave of new players can swing a price sharply within days.
Can you sell kamas on the marketplace?
No. The marketplace is for trading items for kamas. Kamas themselves are sold between players on dedicated platforms.
