Making your first kamas in Dofus as a beginner

6 min read

At low level, your first kamas come from three places: quest rewards, what you gather and what you loot from monsters, sold on the marketplace. The rest is habit: throw nothing away, do not spend too early and sell at the right price.

Start with quests, not farming

New players tend to chain fights hoping for a rare drop. That is rarely the best return. The starter-zone quests, in Incarnam and then Astrub, are built for newcomers: they give kamas, experience and useful items, asking nothing but your time.

These rewards are not huge, but they arrive when every thousand kamas counts. They also show you the places you will use later: the bank, the zaaps, the workshops and the marketplace.

Achievements work the same way. Many unlock simply by playing, and some reward kamas. Check the list from time to time: you have probably completed a few without noticing.

A gathering profession, the base of early income

A gathering profession is the only income that needs no capital: you gather, you sell. Farmer, lumberjack, miner, fisherman, alchemist and hunter all earn from level one, and their resources are what other players need to level their own professions.

Hunter is often the easiest early on, because meat drops during the fights you already do to level up. Farmer and alchemist suit you better if you prefer quiet sessions with no combat.

Do not chase the “most profitable” profession right away: at low level, consistency matters more. Our guide to profitable professions compares them when you want to go further.

ProfessionWhy early onGood to know
HunterLevels during your fightsNeeds a hunting rune on your weapon
FarmerEasy, no combatLow-value resources, busy fields
AlchemistScattered plants, less farmedYou need to cover many maps
FishermanCalm activity, useful fishSome luck involved, contested spots

Monster resources: loot you should not bin

Every fight leaves resources behind: hides, wool, feathers, wings and so on. The beginner reflex is to hoard them in a mess or throw them away when the inventory is full. That is a waste: most of them sell, because crafters and quests need them.

Before selling, check the unit price on the marketplace. Some low-level resources are worth almost nothing; others are in demand because they go into popular gear or a dungeon key.

  • Empty your inventory into the bank regularly instead of throwing things away.
  • Group the same resource to sell it by 10 or by 100.
  • Keep aside anything a current quest will ask for.
  • Note which monsters drop loot that sells well on your server, and go back to them.

Selling on the marketplace without losing kamas

The marketplace is where your resources turn into kamas. The seller pays a 2% tax when listing, even if the item never sells: a random price costs you on every attempt.

The simple rule: match existing listings, slightly below if you want a quick sale, and always compare the unit price across lots of 1, 10, 100 and 1,000. Our marketplace guide covers reading prices and choosing lot sizes.

  1. 1Group identical resources in your bank.
  2. 2At the marketplace, note the unit price of the cheapest listings and the average price shown.
  3. 3Pick the lot size where listings are scarce.
  4. 4Set a price in line with the market, re-read the number of zeros, then confirm.

The Almanax, a daily income from level 20

From level 20, the Almanax asks you every day for an offering to bring to the temple. In return you get kamas, experience and Almatons. Rewards vary by day, and some days pay well above the cost of the offering.

For a beginner it is a good habit to start early: a few minutes a day, and one more calendar page towards the Dolmanax. Our Almanax guide explains where to go and how to prepare offerings in advance.

Tip : Before buying an offering on the day, check your bank: many are gathering or monster resources you pick up while playing.

Playing without a subscription: what changes

You can start Dofus without a subscription, but part of the world and some features stay reserved for subscribers. The starter zones are enough for your first quests, your first gathering and your first sales.

Access rules have changed several times over the years: check in game what is open to you before building your plan around a zone or a profession. Also remember that a subscription can be paid in game with ogrines, which can themselves be bought with kamas: it is often one of the first goals of a player who has built up some capital.

Beginner mistakes that cost a lot

Most beginners are not short of kamas because they earn little, but because they spend badly.

  • Overpaying for transition gear: at low level you change sets very quickly. Average gear is enough.
  • Dumping all your loot to sell fast: a few kamas less per lot adds up.
  • Relisting over and over: every new listing pays the tax again.
  • Throwing resources away when your inventory overflows, instead of visiting the bank.
  • Believing in kamas giveaways in chat: a classic trap, see our guide to kamas scams.

Watch out : Never lend your login details, even to a player offering to “help you farm”. An emptied account cannot always be recovered.

When to buy kamas instead of farming

If you have little time to play, the question eventually comes up. The honest calculation is simple: compare what you earn in an hour of play on your server with the price of a million shown on our kamas prices page. If an hour of play is worth less than that price, earning those kamas costs you more than buying them, and vice versa.

For an overview of income sources once you have progressed, read our guide on how to earn kamas. Remember that trading kamas for real money is forbidden by Ankama’s terms of use: if you do it, do it between players, in a setting that keeps a record of every step.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make kamas fast as a Dofus beginner?

Start with the Incarnam and Astrub quests, level a gathering profession and sell your monster resources on the marketplace at market price. From level 20, add the Almanax every day.

Which profession is best for your first kamas in Dofus?

A gathering profession. Hunter levels during your fights, while farmer and alchemist suit quiet gathering. All of them earn from level one.

Can you earn kamas in Dofus without a subscription?

Yes, through starter quests, gathering and selling resources in the zones open to you. Part of the world is reserved for subscribers, though: check in game what you can access.

Should I sell resources on the marketplace or to an NPC?

On the marketplace in most cases: other players pay far more than an NPC. Just remember the 2% tax charged when you list.
