Is buying Dofus kamas safe? The scams and risks to know
5 min read
Buying kamas for real money happens outside Ankama’s official tools: nobody oversees the trade, and if something goes wrong, the publisher will not help you. That is exactly what draws scammers in. This article explains what that lack of oversight means, which scams come up most often, and how to protect yourself.

Trades that nobody oversees
Ankama offers a single official way to turn real money into kamas: the ogrines-for-kamas exchange, in game. Everything else, selling sites, social media listings, player-to-player deals paid in euros or dollars, happens outside the official tools, and so without any oversight from the publisher.
In practice, if the seller does not deliver, if a payment is reversed afterwards or if the kamas you received are removed, Ankama’s support will not step in on your behalf. There is no refund, no restoration and no arbitration from them. Ankama does not recognise these trades, and an account involved in them can be sanctioned: that is worth knowing before you start.
That lack of oversight does not go away because a site looks serious. What a good site can provide is its own framework: a record of every step, a verifiable reputation, and someone to settle disagreements.
Watch out : No seller and no site, ours included, can make buying kamas “risk-free”. Be wary of anyone who promises you that.
Why scams are so common
A scammer looks for two things: money changing hands, and a victim with no recourse. The kamas trade offers both. The publisher does not step in, payments often go through methods that are hard to dispute, and many buyers are beginners in a hurry to get their kamas.
Scams thrive wherever there is no record: a private conversation that can be deleted, a username that changes overnight, a “reputation” made of unverifiable screenshots. The more informal the trade, the easier it is to vanish with the money.
The most common scams
The same scenarios keep coming back, on the buyer’s side as well as the seller’s. Knowing them is often enough to avoid them.
- The fake payment proof: an edited screenshot or a fake confirmation email, sent to get the kamas before the money has actually arrived.
- The PayPal chargeback: the buyer pays, receives the kamas, then disputes the payment with PayPal or their bank to get the money back.
- Kamas from stolen accounts: they can be removed once the theft is spotted, leaving the buyer with neither kamas nor money.
- The fake middleman: a fake moderator, a fake “guarantor” or a site imitating a known platform, which takes the payment and disappears.
- Off-platform contact: a seller who suggests “finishing on Discord” to skip fees or go faster, leaving the buyer with no usable record.
- The request for your login details “to deliver faster”, which has only one goal: stealing the account.
Tip : A price far below the market, pressure to pay quickly or a request to leave the site are the three signals that should stop you.
What KamasTrade does, and what it does not
KamasTrade is a player-to-player marketplace. The site does not sell kamas and never holds your money: payment goes directly between buyer and seller. It is neither affiliated with nor endorsed by Ankama.
What the site provides is the framework missing elsewhere: each transaction follows six timestamped steps, the messaging stays attached to the trade, each seller’s reputation is calculated from transactions that were actually completed, and disputes are settled by moderation.
| KamasTrade does | KamasTrade does not |
|---|---|
| Connect buyers and sellers | Sell kamas itself |
| Timestamp every step of the transaction | Collect or hold your payment |
| Show a reputation based on real sales | Guarantee where a seller’s kamas come from |
| Settle disputes between members | Give you recourse with Ankama |
How to protect yourself
If you decide to buy, knowing what is at stake, a few simple rules rule out most scams. They do not replace official oversight, which does not exist, but they make a real difference.
- 1Pick a rated seller with a verifiable transaction history rather than the cheapest offer out of nowhere. Our guide to spotting a reliable kamas site lists the checks to make.
- 2Never give out your login details: a seller only needs your character name and where to meet.
- 3Stay on the site from start to finish. A deal continued on Discord or in private messages leaves no usable record if there is a dispute.
- 4Start with a small amount, especially with a seller you do not know.
- 5Compare kamas prices by server: a price far below the market should make you question where the kamas come from.
Watch out : A seller who asks for your password “to deliver faster” is trying to steal your account. Other scenarios are described in our article on Dofus kamas scams.
Alternatives without real money
If you would rather stay within the framework Ankama provides, there are still several ways to get kamas without paying another player in euros or dollars.
The first is the game itself: farming resources, levelling a profession, selling at the marketplace, doing the Almanax or treasure hunts. Our guide on how to earn kamas reviews the methods that pay off at each level.
The second is the official ogrines-for-kamas exchange that Ankama offers in game: you convert ogrines, bought or earned, into kamas with other players, without leaving the intended framework. Our article on the ogrines to kamas rate explains how it works.
Frequently asked questions
Is buying Dofus kamas safe?
Not without precautions. These trades are not overseen by Ankama: if you are scammed, the publisher does not step in and nothing is refunded. Hence the importance of a rated seller, tracked steps and a trade that stays on the site.
What are the most common kamas scams?
Fake payment proofs, PayPal chargebacks, kamas from stolen accounts, fake middlemen, and sellers who push you to finish the trade off the platform.
Can Ankama help me if I get scammed?
No. A kamas-for-money trade happens outside the official tools: Ankama’s support does not arbitrate these transactions and returns neither the money nor the kamas.
Is there a risk-free kamas site?
No. No site can make these trades risk-free. A serious site can reduce the risk of scams by recording every step, showing a verifiable reputation and settling disputes.
How can I get kamas without paying real money?
By earning them in game (resources, professions, marketplace, Almanax) or through the official ogrines-for-kamas exchange offered by Ankama.
Want to go faster?
Kamas to buy or a dungeon to clear: players on your server handle it, rated on their real trades.
