A companion is an extra ally that you control yourself during fights against monsters. Each character can bring one, which helps a lot when playing solo or filling out a team. You get them from the shop, with achievement points, through quests or other in-game activities.

What is a companion in Dofus?

A companion is an allied fighter who joins your battles and whom you control on its turn, like a second character. It has its own spells and fixed stats: no gear to find and no points to allocate.

Companions were heavily reworked when they merged with the old incarnations: there are now several dozen of them, each with a clear role. They come as a sign that you place in the dedicated slot on your character.

Tip : Companions are designed for solo players and small groups. One is not worth a real player, but it often fills the role you lack: healing, damage or positioning.

How a companion works in combat

Your companion enters the fight with you and takes a slot like any character. The usual limit of eight fighters per team applies: four players with one companion each already fill a team.

You can move it during the placement phase, then you play its turn in addition to yours. If your character falls, your companion goes down with it, so protect your main character first.

  • One companion per character, but every group member can bring their own.
  • Usable only against monsters.
  • Not allowed in some fights with special rules, so check before you start.
  • Allowed in some quest fights that used to be solo-only, but not all of them.

What a companion does not do

A companion earns no experience and collects no loot. More importantly, it counts as a group member in the experience calculation without adding the bonus a real player would: for the fastest levelling, it is often less efficient than a human partner.

It is still valuable for winning a tough fight, a small-group dungeon or an achievement. Companions count as characters for challenges and achievements, and some achievements even require one in the team.

Watch out : For achievements that require a companion, only companions obtained in game count: one bought from the shop will not validate them.

How to get companions

There are several ways to unlock a companion, from the shop to in-game activities. When Dofus 3 launched, Ankama gave every player a free companion of their choice among Lumino, Ombre, Scoreur and Skale.

How to get itExamples
Shop (Ogrines)Lumino, Ombre, Skale, Scoreur, Toxine, Malle O’Kranh, Archiduk, Éclaireur spectral
Achievement pointsChevalier d’Astrub (500), Masse (1,000), Korbax (1,000), Hectaupe (2,000), Hichète (3,000)
QuestsKrosmoglob
Other activitiesMonster drops, resources, purchases with nuggets, desert roses or Kolossokens

Tip : Achievement points add up naturally as you play: by clearing dungeons and their achievements, you unlock the Chevalier d’Astrub, then Masse or Korbax along the way. A dungeon run with achievements can speed this up.

Which companion to pick as a beginner?

The right companion is the one that complements your class. A hard-hitting but fragile class will love a healer; a sturdy class with little damage will benefit from a damage companion.

  • Lumino: a very complete healer, ideal for chaining fights solo with a damage class.
  • Ombre: mid-range and melee damage that grows as it takes hits.
  • Skale: a support that gives power and MP to the team.
  • Scoreur: poisons and pushes enemies back, but needs more skill.
  • Chevalier d’Astrub: quickly unlocked with achievement points, it boosts damage and pairs well with a healer.

The main companion roles

Like classes, companions fall into roles. Knowing these families helps you pick the right one for each fight instead of relying on a single one.

RoleWhat it does
DamageSpeed up fights by removing hit points
SupportHeal and keep the team alive
BoostStrengthen allies (power, MP, damage)
PositioningMove allies and enemies around the grid
LockSlow enemies down, remove their AP or MP
TankingTake hits in place of allies

Companion, class and progression

A companion does not replace a well-chosen class: it complements it. If you are still unsure about your character, our guide on choosing a class details each class’s role, and our Dofus beginner guide covers the first good habits.

To go further solo, combine the right companion, a consistent allocation of your characteristics and dungeons suited to your level.
