5 min read

Every level, your character gets 5 characteristic points to spend. The four elemental characteristics get more expensive in tiers, vitality always costs 1 point and wisdom costs 3. The golden rule: one main element, then vitality, and you can always fix things later with a stat reset.

The six main characteristics

Dofus has four elemental characteristics, each tied to an element of spells, and two support characteristics. The first raise your damage; the second make you tougher or level you faster.

Each elemental characteristic boosts the damage of its element’s spells and adds a little initiative, which sets turn order in combat. Each also gives its own small secondary bonus.

CharacteristicElement or main effectSecondary bonus
StrengthEarth spells (and Neutral)Pods (carrying weight)
IntelligenceFire spellsHeals
ChanceWater spellsProspecting
AgilityAir spellsLock and dodge
VitalityHit points—
WisdomExperience earned—

Tip : Power, found on gear, boosts the damage of every element at once. It suits multi-element characters but gives none of the secondary bonuses (pods, prospecting, lock, dodge, initiative).

Stat tiers: why each point costs more

For elemental characteristics, the cost of a point rises every 100 points invested. Tiers only count the points you placed yourself: gear and scrolls do not raise the cost.

In practice, raising a characteristic to 200 costs 300 capital points, and raising it to 300 costs 600. That is why a two-element character can get more out of its points than one pushing a single element very high: the first tiers are the cheapest.

Points already investedCost per point (strength, intelligence, chance, agility)
0 to 1001 point
101 to 2002 points
201 to 3003 points
above 3004 points

Vitality and wisdom: two opposite choices

Vitality stays at 1 point for 1, with no tiers. Every point turns straight into hit points: it is the safe pick once you have reached the tier you want in your element.

Wisdom costs 3 points for 1. It increases the experience you earn in combat. Players mostly raise it on characters built for fast levelling, or alongside an element when they want levels quickly and accept being more fragile.

Watch out : A full-wisdom character hits softly and dies fast. If your fights get too long or too hard, shift points back to your element or vitality.

AP, MP and other combat stats

AP (action points) are used to cast spells, MP (movement points) to move. You cannot buy them with characteristic points: they come from your level, your gear and some bonuses. Gear cannot take you beyond 12 AP and 6 MP.

Other stats also come from gear: range (capped at 6 from gear), fixed damage, critical hits, resistances, summons, heals. Percentage elemental resistances are capped at 50%.

  • Initiative: decides who plays first; it comes from elemental characteristics and gear.
  • Prospecting: improves drop chances, with diminishing returns.
  • Lock and dodge: lock makes leaving an adjacent enemy costly, dodge reduces those AP and MP losses.

How to allocate your points for your goal

There is no single right build: it depends on your class, your spells and how you play. Three patterns cover most cases, though.

  1. 1Single element: raise your element to 300, then put everything else into vitality. At level 200, that gives 300 in the element and 395 vitality before gear.
  2. 2Multi-element: split points according to the spells you actually cast. Take advantage of the cheaper early tiers rather than pushing one element very high.
  3. 3Fast levelling: one element up to a comfortable tier, the rest in wisdom, then back to a standard build once you reach your goal.

Tip : New to the game? Focus on one element, the one of your favourite spells, and put the rest into vitality. You can fine-tune later once you have your first real set of gear.

Characteristic scrolls

Scrolls give additional points, separate from those earned by levelling. You can stack up to 100 of them in each of the six main characteristics.

These points are not subject to tiers and stay with you: a reset does not remove them. Scrolls come in several sizes, each usable up to a certain threshold, so check it before buying. Start with the characteristics your character really uses: your element and vitality.

Scrolls trade on the auction house and are a real budget item. Our guide on how to earn kamas helps you fund them, and you can check the kamas price on your server.

Resetting your characteristics

Made a mistake, or switching element? Several options give you back the points earned through levels. None of them touches scroll points.

  • With a subscription: a button in the characteristics window resets your allocation outside combat, as often as you like.
  • Dopples: one free reset per character, in exchange for a Doplon earned by beating a Dopple or through a wanted notice.
  • Orb of Reconstitution: sold in the shop, used with your class master in its temple.
