Pets in Dofus: how to get them, feed them and level them up
5 min read
A pet is a small companion you equip to gain stat bonuses. In Dofus 3, most pets are tamed out in the world once you meet certain requirements, and they level up when you feed them resources. They no longer die and no longer need regular meals.

What is a pet for?
The pet has its own equipment slot. It follows you around and, above all, adds bonuses to your character: stats, damage, resistances or action and movement points depending on the pet.
A freshly obtained pet gives nothing: its bonuses appear as soon as it eats its first resource, then grow with its level, up to level 100.
Watch out : A subscription is required to equip a pet or a petsmount, even a purely cosmetic one. Without a subscription, keep your resources for later instead of spending them on a pet you cannot wear.
How to get a pet
In Dofus 3, there are two main ways to get a pet. Some are bought from NPCs, for example with Almanax or Dimensions currencies. Most are found directly in the World of Twelve: the pet appears in its area once you meet its requirements, and you tame it by giving it the resources it asks for.
Requirements are mostly dungeon or quest achievements. With the Unity version, the resources required were reduced, and some quest requirements were replaced by monster kills, which are easier to complete.
- 1Pick the pet you want and find out where it can be obtained.
- 2Read its requirements in the achievements list and complete what is missing, usually the area’s dungeon or quests.
- 3Gather the resources needed to tame it.
- 4Go to the area: the pet appears once the requirements are met.
- 5Give it the resources and it joins you.
Tip : Pet not showing up? Open your achievements: a dungeon or quest from its area is almost always missing. If a dungeon is the blocker, a dungeon run can unlock it quickly.
A few easy pets to start with
For a first pet, there is no need to aim high. Several pets are available early in the game and already give a welcome boost. Names below are the French in-game names.
| Pet | How to get it / why |
|---|---|
| Bow Meow (Chacha) | Traded for wool at the end of the Gobball dungeon |
| Piwin (Pioute) | Traded for 50 feathers and 100 sesame seeds |
| Tubskito (Boskito) | The only really useful AP-reduction pet at low level |
| Snailmate (Kokulte) | Critical hit bonus, worth it once you have the Kimbo achievements |
Feeding your pet to level it up
Since the pet rework, there are no more meal times and no more health points to watch: pets no longer die. Progress comes only from food. Each resource gives an amount of experience based on its level, its rarity and the monster that drops it.
The resources that give the most are usually AP, Range and MP runes, keys, essences and boss resources. Some resources give nothing at all: check the displayed value before feeding.
Experience values are rounded down. A resource worth slightly more than one point only gives one if fed on its own: feed in batches so nothing is lost.
- Keep boss resources and cheap runes from the marketplace for your pets.
- Avoid resources that show zero experience.
- Feed resources in large stacks rather than one at a time.
Enriched Croquettes and level 100
Enriched Croquettes give 500 experience points each. They are bought with Kolossium and AvA currencies. Pricier than regular resources, they save a lot of time on the last levels.
The experience curve shoots up at the end: the last levels cost far more than the first ones. Most pets receive their biggest bonuses before level 100, so stopping around level 80 is often the best compromise on a tight budget.
Tip : Start with resources picked up in fights, and save croquettes for the end of the climb, where each level is expensive. Short on kamas to finish? Compare kamas prices on your server.
Petsmounts
A petsmount is a bigger pet that you ride. It makes you move faster and levels up like a pet, by eating resources. Like a pet, it requires a subscription to be equipped.
Some petsmounts are purely cosmetic: they give no stats and are only for looks. Since Unity, all pets and petsmounts have access to autopilot. For real breeding mounts, see our mounts guide.
Legendary pets
A level 100 pet can become legendary and gain an extra bonus. You need to have completed the quest « Fleeting Meetings » and gather two items: a Babyhemoth Reflection, which grants legendary status, and a Quintessence.
The Quintessence turns into an infused croquette that the pet eats; the bonus is drawn at random from the list tied to each Quintessence. Making them requires rare endgame resources (the recipe has changed over updates), and it can take several tries to land the bonus you want. It is an endgame goal, best kept for a pet you plan to wear for a long time.
