Dofus breeding guide: Dragoturkeys, paddocks and reproduction in the current system
6 min read
Since its overhaul, breeding is a proper profession in Dofus. You capture wild mounts with a net, make them fertile in account-wide paddocks, then mate them to reach rarer generations and colours. Here is how the current system works, step by step.

What changed with the breeding overhaul
If you remember the old breeding system, forget most of your habits. The overhaul released with update 3.5 turned the activity into a full profession, with its own level, recipes and tiers.
Mounts now go up to level 200, with higher bonuses than before. Certificates are gone: a mount is simply an item you equip. Private paddocks were removed, and so were energy and tiredness management.
All three mount families, Dragoturkeys, Seemyools and Rhineetles, follow exactly the same breeding rules. This guide mostly talks about Dragoturkeys, but everything applies to the other two as well. To compare the families, see our mounts guide.
Watch out : Mounts owned before update 3.5 became senile: they can still be equipped and levelled, but they can no longer be mated or cloned, and extracting them gives only one resource. Check your old mounts before building your breeding plan around them.
Capturing your first mounts
Everything starts with capture. You no longer need to earn the taming spell at the end of a dungeon: you now equip a capture net in your combat consumables slot, and the spell becomes available, once per fight, during the fight against the target mount.
A captured mount gets a special state until the end of the fight; win the fight to keep it. Advanced nets require a certain profession level and can, for example, catch several mounts at once or duplicate the target.
| Family | Where to find it in the wild |
|---|---|
| Dragoturkey | Wild Dragoturkey Territory, Koalak Mountain |
| Rhineetle | Brakmar stud farm, south of the city |
| Seemyool | Seemyool basin, north of Sufokia (reachable by boat, among other ways) |
Tip : Each couple produces only one baby, so capture a lot early on. A large stock of generation 1 mounts is the foundation of any efficient breeding setup, and every capture also levels the profession.
Paddocks in the breeders’ village
Paddocks are located in the breeders’ village in the Koalak Mountain, which also hosts the profession workshop and a marketplace dedicated to creatures. They are tied to your account: no more buying a guild or house paddock.
The village has six ten-slot paddocks, unlocked as the profession levels up: the first at level 1, then at levels 40, 80, 120, 160 and 200. Levelling the profession also unlocks better refills and better nets.
A paddock’s gauges drain at the same rate whether it holds one mount or ten, so always fill your paddocks to avoid waste.
Gauges and serenity: making a mount fertile
Each paddock has several breeding items that affect every mount inside. The key is serenity, a bar running from negative to positive that decides which stats can rise.
A mount becomes fertile once its Stamina, Maturity and Love gauges are full. The mount’s experience is earned separately, through the feeder.
- One item lowers serenity and another raises it.
- Three others raise Stamina, Maturity (the drinking trough) and Love.
- The feeder gives the mount experience.
- Only two items can run at the same time, and never the two serenity items together.
| Gauge | When it rises |
|---|---|
| Stamina | Negative serenity |
| Maturity | Serenity between -2,000 and 2,000 |
| Love | Positive serenity |
Tip : Keeping serenity around zero lets Maturity rise while you alternate Stamina and Love. Pairing the feeder with another item levels the mount while its gauges fill up.
Recharging breeding items
Paddock items run on energy that you refill with fuels crafted by breeders. The fuller an item is, the faster it works, but the faster it drains too.
These fuels come in four grades and five sizes, unlocked as the profession levels up. You can craft them at the workshop or buy them at the marketplace. This is where breeding meets the other professions: many ingredients come from gathering.
Reproduction, generations and colours
Put two fertile mounts of opposite sex and the same family in the mating tab. The baby arrives straight away, at level 1, with a random sex. Both parents then become sterile. The interface shows the odds for each possible baby before you confirm.
Dragoturkeys are split into ten generations. Generation 1 holds the basic colours, each odd generation then adds new pure colours, and each even generation their two-colour crosses. The higher the parents’ level, the better the odds of reaching the target generation.
The pedigree taken into account goes back to the grandparents. A colour that appears several times in the ancestry is more likely to come out: that is the idea behind “pure” lines, which are easier to push forward.
| Generation | Pure Dragoturkey colours |
|---|---|
| 1 | Almond, Ginger, Golden |
| 3 | Indigo, Ebony |
| 5 | Orchid, Crimson |
| 7 | Ivory, Turquoise |
| 9 | Plum, Emerald |
Makinas, cloning and extraction
Breeders craft Makinas to use during a mating (one per mating, of a generation at least equal to the target): the Kromakina gives the baby the Chameleon ability (its colours match your character) and the Optimakina raises the odds of reaching the target generation, by 20% since update 3.7 (10% before). The Animakina also acts on the baby, but its effect has changed between versions: read its in-game description.
Cloning merges two sterile mounts of the same family and generation into a single fertile mount, which keeps its sex and pedigree but loses its special ability. It is the way to recycle parents after a birth. Senile mounts cannot be cloned.
Extraction destroys a mount in exchange for crafting resources: neurons for Dragoturkeys, amber for Seemyools, horns for Rhineetles. You get one resource per generation; generation 1 mounts cannot be extracted. These resources go into many equipment recipes, which finally gives surplus mounts some value. They also matter to anyone into smithmagic.
Tips to progress faster
Breeding is mostly about organisation. A few habits save a lot of time.
- 1Capture in bulk early on: it is your raw material and free profession experience.
- 2Fill every paddock to ten mounts and always keep two items running.
- 3Get high-level parents before important matings: their level weighs on the baby’s generation.
- 4Save your Optimakinas for the births that really matter.
- 5Check the Almanax: some days give breeding bonuses.
- 6Clone or extract sterile parents instead of leaving them idle in the stable.
Tip : No time to level the profession or fill gauges? On KamasTrade, breeders offer mounts and ready-made breeding packs.
Frequently asked questions
How do you capture a Dragoturkey in Dofus 3?
Equip a capture net in your combat consumables, then fight a wild Dragoturkey in the Koalak Mountain. The capture spell is granted during the fight; win the fight to keep the mount.
Where are the paddocks in Dofus since the breeding overhaul?
In the breeders’ village in the Koalak Mountain. Private paddocks were removed; the new paddocks are tied to your account and unlock as your breeding profession levels up.
How do you make a Dragoturkey fertile?
Fill its Stamina, Maturity and Love gauges by managing serenity with the paddock items: negative serenity for Stamina, close to zero for Maturity, positive for Love.
How many babies does a mating give?
Usually one, and both parents become sterile. Some special abilities give an extra baby. Sterile parents can then be cloned or extracted.
How many Dragoturkey generations are there?
Ten. Odd generations add new pure colours and even generations their two-colour crosses, up to the Plum and Emerald Dragoturkeys and their mixes.
